Lead Application Developer

Farm Bureau Financial Services is seeking a strong technical resource who is excited to make a real difference for our employees and client/members. As a Lead Application Developer you will be responsible to provide technical leadership and design decision making for our corporate systems business partners aligned to Accounting, Finance, Treasury, Investments, Compliance, Human Resources and Legal functions within the organization. If you have a varied technical development background with a passion for learning and applying engineering principles, we would like your help in leading us through our strategic initiatives. A solid understanding of working with third party solutions, vendor relationship management, security protocols and a desire to provide technical mentorship to your teammates is sought. What You'll Do:

  • Lead the implementation, education, and support of our enterprise corporate systems for all end users, through understanding of technical solution as well as our business processes.
  • Participate in special projects by taking the lead technical role in project proposals, justification, design, development, testing and delivery phases.
  • Serve as the key liaison between technical and business areas to analyze and resolve complex business problems
  • Analyze, evaluate, and oversee the development, implementation and maintenance of systems and applications. Develop new and maintain existing applications of the highest complexity - including developing application code, testing completed applications, and developing required documentation.
  • Conduct research and maintain high level of knowledge in systems software/hardware to ensure operations and implementations are of the highest quality. Assist the business with process improvements where needed.
  • Design complex technology configurations to satisfy business requirements. Create, execute, and maintain project plans for complex systems.
  • Give guidance and direction to development staff on technical matters and overall staff development.

What It Takes to Join Our Team:

  • College degree or equivalent plus 7 years of relevant experience is required. 5 years of experience in insurance or finance data processing preferred.
  • Knowledge of data handling methods, development techniques and one or more development programming languages.
  • Knowledge of XML, SQL, Java, Informatica preferred.
  • Strong analytical/conceptual thinking and detail-oriented skills are required.
  • Comfortable in a team environment with changing priorities and time pressures. Ability to work independently and as part of a cross organizational team.
  • A customer focused mindset and strong communication skills are required, including business professional writing and verbal communication skills.
  • Must understand the inter-relationship between business and technology needs.
