Lead Application Developer

As an Lead Application Developer in our organization you have the opportunity to work alongside others who take what they do seriously, prove it every day, and deliver on business needs for our growing financial services business located in our West Des Moines corporate headquarters.

This team supports our Property Casualty Policy systems. In this role your main responsibility would be to provide support for our property and casualty applications. This would include developing solutions for P&C projects, small enhancements and support of our P&C application. You would also help enhance and support the other systems our team is responsible for maintaining.

What You'll Do:

  • Analyze and evaluate system applications.
  • Develop new and maintain existing applications of the highest complexity as per specifications including developing application code, testing completed applications, and develop required documentation as defined by company development standards.
  • Oversee the development, implementation, and maintenance of systems and applications.
  • Lead the integration of new systems and recommend new technology.
  • Communicate with developers on the problem resolution process and provide information pertaining to the system.
  • Verify application logic by preparing test data and test plans, test and debug system applications, verifying test results and by providing guidance to others.
  • Work closely with internal customers to keep the business and IT informed of productivity objectives, goals and concerns.
  • Provide twenty-four hour support for computer operation of production systems as needed.
  • Lead the determination of causes of system problems by conferring with technical, business unit and system personnel.
  • Provide ongoing support and resolution of business problems and analyze and correct system failures.

What it takes to join our team:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent, plus seven years relevant experience.
  • Experience with at least 5+ years of Java experience.
  • Experience with ETL/Informatica a plus.
  • Reasonably regular and predictable attendance.
  • Strong leadership skills and initiative to research questions and concerns.
  • Strong communication skills in order to interact with customers and explain technical issues to non-technical colleagues.
  • Experience with Agile a plus.
